    Vine, what’s it all about?

So what is it? Twitter Vine is a new free mobile app, currently only available on the iPhone and iPod touch, that lets you share six second looping videos. It has the sound switched off by default. Its brevity likened to the limited number of characters allowed on Twitter. The standalone app draws on Foursquare providing the ability to add locations to clips which are then posted to Twitter and/or Facebook. Twitter in fact acquired Vine in October 2012, before the start up had even launched its own app. Why the big deal? Because of

Facebook’s Graph Search: Flatline or Exponential Growth?

On 15 January Facebook announced its new Graph Search addressing what is potentially a hugely lucrative market. Where previously you would have posted a question on your Wall, you can now search across people, photos, places and interests within Facebook using structured queries. For example, if traveling abroad you can use the tool to find out what friends or friends of friends you might have in the city. If you’re looking for a new job, you might use the functionality to check if any of your friends know anyone who works at your preferred company

on Aug 17, 12 • in Corporate and Financial • with No Comments

As I sat in on Sunday night, engrossed in the closing ceremony, one thing that struck me as I watched the 11,000 athletes enter the Olympic stadium, was the sheer number of people with phones and ipads, uploading images to Facebook and Twitter in real-time as they walked in proudly brandishing their medals to the second rendition of Elbow’s One Day Like This. We are increasingly social beings. Facebook boasts more than 900 million monthly active users while the Twittersphere has a growing community of 140 million worldwide. As an incredible Games draws to a

  • Hats off to Nelson: The cultural stories winning headlines in a summer of sport

on Jul 31, 12 • in Corporate and Financial • with No Comments

We have had the absolute pleasure to be working on a project supported by the Mayor of London that revealed itself to the world yesterday morning. Trafalgar Square’s most famous resident, Admiral Lord Nelson, is currently adorned with a new hat for the first time in 200 years. The early start and early morning rooftop clambering was all worth it to capture shots of the great man resplendent in his new hat in the morning sun. If you happen to be in the area over the next couple of days do look up and you

How many of you scroll through your news feeds on Facebook and only stop to look at the posts with pictures? If you find you fit into this category, you are not alone – people are becoming increasingly engaged with images rather than text. • The critical importance of time when understanding influence

on Jul 9, 12 • in Social media, Technology • with No Comments

A process cannot be understood by stopping it. Understanding must move with the flow of the process, must join it and flow with it. ..and yet the above quote from Frank Herbert is exactly what many people ignore when trying to understand who is influential on any given topic. Conversations are not fixed points in time but are dynamic and agile with different participants contributing throughout.   Why This is Important? If people are trying to influence a conversation to ensure their message resonates throughout their target audience it is essential that they target the

  • Going social in China

on Jun 25, 12 • in Corporate and Financial • with No Comments

China has over 513 million internet users. That’s more internet users in one country than the entire population of South America! However, what you can just see from this second photograph is that most of the locals (still in full Naxi attire – the traditional clothing of the local indigenous culture) have mobile phones that connect to the internet. We all know by now that China has blazed a trail of industrialisation over the last few years, rising on the global scene as the fierce dragon of the East. However, not only has it conquered
