The games don’t officially start until tomorrow but the annual property networking jamboree that is MIPIM is already underway. Early arrivals were spared the transport mayhem which have afflicted those MIPIM-bound today, and have had time to sort out accommodation niggles and pick up passes before the hordes – 19,000 expected – arrive  on site tomorrow morning. A local hotelier reports a spate of last minute bookings, more so than in previous years, so perhaps it will be even more of a crush than expected.

Unfortunately the weather isn’t very bright – rainy and cool – but this doesn’t seem to reflect the general market outlook. Despite ongoing uncertainty about Greece and the euro, property professionals seem cautiously optimistic about prospects.

Possibly the hottest sector at the show is social media – the #mipim hash tag may not (yet) be trending but it is a swiftly moving stream.  And there are reams of UK-based bloggers, including Nick Candy in the Times today and a strong list from the trades including Architect’s JournalEstates Gazette,Property Week, and Building.

Other useful tipsters are Andrew Taylor, the Mill Group and Tom Bloxham, Urban Splash.
